About
A one-man shop in Charleston, South Carolina.
The name
Kasap is my middle name. It is also the old Serbian word for butcher, carried into the Balkans under the Ottomans, and somewhere back in the family there was a man who earned it. A butcher reads the grain, cuts clean, and wastes nothing. That turned out to be the whole job description for a furniture maker, so we kept the name.
The work
I build pieces to order: coffee and dining tables, benches and desks, mostly in black walnut, curly maple and white oak, with epoxy where the slab calls for it. Every piece starts with a conversation about where it will live and how it will be used, and ends with a hand-rubbed finish and my mark burned into the underside. In between there is a lot of sanding. If you have your own wood, or you've found a slab online you can't stop thinking about, we can build with that too.
The company
Kasap Wood Co. is a brand of WS Trading Co. Commissions are quoted individually. Small goods like chess boards and cutting boards are made in batches and listed on the Furniture page whenever we have them.
